I shut it down that night, but when I went to start it back up the following morning, I was greeted with the customary grey Apple logo, followed by a progress bar, and then it just turned itself off. The upgrade itself ran rather smoothly and for the remainder of that day I was able to use the machine without so much as a hiccup. I then decided that I'd upgrade it to Yosemite, and that's when the problems started. I took the machine home and used it for a couple of days without a single issue (other than getting used to OSX - my last experience with a Mac was back in 1994.) Mavericks ran smooth as butter, it booted up and powered down without a single hiccup. No evidence of physical damage - keys, case, trackpad, and screen all looked good. Before taking delivery of the machine, I ran the extended Apple hardware test on it which passed with flying colors. I recently acquired a 13" mid-2012 model MBP (i5) off of Craigslist.
